BLUSHBOSS REVIEWS: Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick

Posted on 19 January 2017

The Charlotte Tilbury brand brings about a feeling of exclusivity and luxury. The packaging of the products are beautiful - shiny, golden lipstick bullets and cream eyeshadows in solid, frosted glass jars.
Charlotte Tilbury is definitely a brand suited more for the mature crowd. Their colours are classic and pigmentation are buildable from sheer to intense. Some products, like the Matte Revolution lipsticks and Eyes to Mesmerise cream eyeshadows are inspired by Hollywood celebrities and supermodels, which is all very glamorous.

Matte Revolution lipsticks close up

The lipstick is shaped unlike any other - it narrows down at the tip to a slanted rectangle instead of a slanted circle. It is designed that way for more precise application as it mimics the shape of your lips.

Upon application, the first thing I noticed was the texture - it glides on effortlessly on the and is smoother than any lipstick I've ever tried. It has a moisturising formula that actually stays moisturised on your lips. If we were to talk about the hydrating texture alone, I would have to say that it feels almost like a lip balm. Amazing.

The pigmentation was the second thing I noticed. It is nothing but true that the Matte Revolution lipsticks are very buildable. One layer gave me a lovely tint. After two to three layers, you get a highly pigmented, bold lip which looks matte and feels anything but!

Because of its unique rectangle tip, it is very easy to fill in more difficult areas like the cupid's bow and the thin lines of the lips. All you have to do is tilt the lipstick and fill in small areas with the rectangle tip.

Birkin Brown lipstick scribble

The Matte Revolution Lipstick in Birkin Brown

Seeing how hydrating the formula is and that it isn't a liquid lipstick, the stay-on power of these beauties is amazing. I swatched the lipsticks on the back of my hand and continued on with my day. After hours and after washing my hands with soap and water a few times, the swatch stain is still there! So if you've layered on these lipsticks, it probably won't stay bold and intense the entire day, but will most definitely leave a lovely stain or tint after eating and drinking.

Very Victoria and Birkin Brown

Left: Very Victoria. Right: Birkin Brown

We picked the two most unique colours - Very Victoria and Birkin Brown. Very Victoria is a unique muted, mauvey, dusty rose, nude which looks different on everyone. Birkin Brown is a rich, brick-red with brown undertones.

If you find bright and intense liquid lip products slightly intimidating, start with the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipsticks. Or, if you're deathly sensitive to how products feel on your lips, ditch the lip balm give these a go!
